I got to perceive the economy in a much more grounded way compared to the sanitised abstractions of the classroom.

Stats NZ has been a place that has opened my eyes to the public sector, data and how it affects different communities, the power of my lived experience and my voice as a young Pacific person.

This project was very interesting, and I learnt many things along the way.

Thank you so much Stats NZ for your investment and time in my skills, my thinking and me as a young Pacific public servant.

The work they offer, in my opinion, has a lot of value and provides you with the opportunity to really make a difference with the work you put into it.

During my time at Stats NZ, I was blessed enough to be placed in the best team which is the Wellbeing and Housing team.

The workplace culture at Stats NZ was very welcoming, even when it was busy, the people are calm and relaxed.  Stats NZ has a wonderful work environment.

I love coding and statistics. Thus, being able to do work that combines those two is what I love most about my job.

Keeping up-to-date with what’s going on in both central and local government is, therefore, a huge part of my role.

It’s really exciting to see the concepts that I studied at university coming through in our data.

What I love most about my job is exploring data to solve a problem then testing if the proposed solution(s) would make a difference.

Statistics is all about quantifying the real world. The stories in our data are the stories of New Zealand.
